Outline of role
Part time role responsible directly to the Finance Director/COFA, the job comprises two main components:
1. To assist the Finance Director in the conduct of his role as COFA
2. Internal audit of the firm’s financial and regulatory procedures and controls.
The applicant must be able to manage projects, meet deadlines on assignments and juggle multiple demands.
Excellent communication skills are needed to interact effectively with the Accounts staff, fee earners, and Head of Finance.
Excellent report writing skills are required in order to document work done, and also to make recommendations as necessary.
Experience of the Lawsoft system (and Elite 3E) is an advantage, and candidates should be familiar with all aspects of Law Firm accounts systems.
The volume of work is expected to grow in line with the firm’s anticipated expansion, and the candidate should be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills.
Previous experience in a solicitors accounts office
Knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Rules
Good standard of education and part/fully accounting qualified
Day to day duties
•To conduct regular file reviews to assist compliance with SAR rules
•To maintain and update the firm’s Accounts Procedures manual
•To liaise with the COLP and Compliance manager as required
•To conduct internal audit tests of the firm’s Accounts procedures
•To document and report on findings and recommend improvements to procedures
•Assess, evaluate and promote compliance with internal Stewarts Law policies
•Contribute as appropriate to the year end audit with the external auditor
•To conduct SAR and accounts procedures training for fee earners
•Other duties as delegated from time to time by the Finance Director/Acting Financial Controller
