Role Purpose
To develop an effective strategy to support the research, enterprise, innovation and partnerships activities.
To ensure that these functions remain at the heart of School activity, providing a range of first class support services to academics and boosting research income
Accountable for supporting the School’s Executive Board and other senior officers in the achievement of the School’s objectives, in particular the research lifecycle, management and ethics, knowledge exchange, partnerships, short courses, journals office and Research Excellence Framework (REF).

Lead the development of policies, procedures and systems that facilitate the delivery of the School’s Research, Enterprise, Innovation & Partnerships strategy.
Build long-lasting, multi-level partnerships with other organisations and key research funders and institutions nationally and internationally.
Actively engage with academic colleagues, professional services staff and national and international bodies on the pace and direction of research, enterprise, innovation and partnerships strategies across Higher Education Institutions.
Devise, set up and maintain systems for the costing and approval of all external applications, compliance with ethical standards and departmental and faculty authorisation that are consistent with broader School strategy and financial sustainability.
Ensure that appropriate documentation (such as memoranda of agreement and sub-contracts) is produced, signed and retained to govern the operation of all collaborative partnerships for research.
Provide, as directed by the Pro-Director (Research and Enterprise), and in consultation with faculties and centres, a comprehensive plan of activities, reviewed annually, in furtherance of the Research and Enterprise activity.
Lead in setting and agreeing appropriate targets for the School’s Research, Enterprise, Innovation & Partnerships activity, considering issues such as financial pressures, the School’s mission, the costs of the professional service delivered by REIP and accountability for HEIF and other developmental funding.
Identify key performance indicators, and monitor/report on progress towards the attainment of key performance measures and targets in Research, Enterprise, Innovation, Partnerships and Knowledge Transfer.
Ensure effective quality assurance arrangements, including monitoring and evaluation of user needs, service standards, collection and maintenance of other records as required and reporting regimes.
Effective planning, management, utilisation and control of assets and resources including forward financial planning and control of expenditure.
Manage the quality assurance of all Research and Enterprise activities and ensure that research governance and commercial activity meet the models of best practice.
Develop efficient and effective services that will assist staff in maximising Research and Enterprise potential, generate and diversify income, and further links with industry.
Devise and deliver an effective communications strategy to ensure that REO continuously disseminates clear and helpful information on funding and business opportunities, sponsor requirements, strategic priorities and financial imperatives.
