Research Manager post is located in the Research and Enterprise Office (REO) which has responsibility for overseeing research and enterprise funding, research management and knowledge transfer across the School. The post holder will have overall responsibility for the effective operation of the Research Office, and for development of the School’s research strategy and activities, including increasing research income, promoting effective research governance and providing strategic and administrative management of the School’s pre and post-award research functions. The role holder will manage a team of research funding officers, and a contracts manager, and work collaboratively with the Enterprise Manager and Research Finance Manager as part of the Research and Enterprise Senior Management Team. Overall control over the administration of research funding.
Assist the Director of Research & Enterprise in the development of a new School strategic plan for research & enterprise.
Facilitate the preparation of research proposals and to take on a case load of research projects.
Proactively liaise with other HEIs and external partners in order to develop successful large-scale collaborative research proposals.
Arrange regular presentations at by funding agencies to inform academic and support staff about their schemes and strategies.
In liaison with HR, to facilitate a rolling programme of short training courses particularly in relation to submitting research applications.
Produce a weekly Research Information Bulletin and a regular Newsletter promoting research excellence and diversity, to ensure that research achievements within the School are adequately publicised internally and externally.
To work with academic colleagues and the Research Excellence Manager to facilitate the development of research plans in the context of the Research Excellence Framework (REF).
Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of data inputting in to the Research Information System.
Manage pre-award research grant data through the Access database.
Oversee approval and institutional sign-off for all external research grant applications and external research grant contracts.
To serve on appropriate committees and working groups and act as secretary to the Research Committee and Research Ethics Panel.
Represent the School as appropriate at initiatives organised by external organisations and contribute to the effective promotion of the University research profile nationally and internationally.
