How to obtain an NI No

UK Resident

Call the Department of Works & Pensions (DWP) on 0191 213 5000.

You will be asked a few questions pertaining to child benefit issued under this name, if not you will be sent a C5400 form to complete

A National Insurance (NI) number will then be issued within two weeks of either the call being made or the form being received.

Non UK workers

You need to book an appointment at your local "Job Centre plus" office, which can be ‘googled’ to find your local office.

You will have a short interview where you will complete the relevant forms necessary to be forwarded to the DWP.

Your NI Number should be issued within four weeks.
