Opportunities in Charity & Not-for-Profit sector have becoming increasingly popular.
Lawyers, like many of those that work for this sector, do have a sense of giving something back and enjoy working with a team of people passionate for their roles in the organisation.
The pay is not comparable to private practice or even mainstream commercial in-house roles, although it is hard to generalise. Candidates are fully aware of this however but feel the other benefits of the job more than make up for the pay cut they have to take. One of the major benefits can be more life-style changes as the work can be more manageable and predictable (although this is not guaranteed!)
Other not for profit bodies such as trade associations can pay significantly more however because they are likely to have corporate backers.
